A recent client was considering the purchase of a small
chateau but was uncertain about the cost and time
implications of bringing the building up to modern
standards.
We carried out a survey in sufficient detail to produce
drawings as existing so that draft proposals could be
agreed for upgrading the services and toilet amenities.
The condition survey revealed that the roof, although
generally sound, had a large number of small defects.
This meant complete reroofing. The cost of this work
together with the alterations needed to modernise the
building greatly exceeded the total budget.
The cost of our professional services was considered a
small price to pay for avoiding an expensive mistake in
purchasing a property that would have been a constant
drain on resources and a disappointment in use.
